Here in the village I’ve been working with the women who, in their spare time, make the most amazing things with the plastic trash that is other wise burned or flushed into the ecosystem.  My friend Karen poses here with a stunning mat woven from used drinking straws.  She helped her mother weave it over the last year.  We’re now working together to develop new designs and sizing.  I feel this art form has tremendous potential as the 21st century equivalent of a persian rug or tapestry.
