It’s been only 5 days since we inaugurated our bottle compost pit with the first batch of shredded leaves and stalks. My understanding of compost goes back to how we would do it back in Canada. We would just toss all the green stuff into a container, and wait a few months. Those few months usually bumped into Winter, so it wouldn’t be til a year later that you could make use of the compost.
So, imagine my surprise as Principal Peppe and I check on our compost pit last week. The green stuff had already turned black! Putting your hand inside you felt a HOT (and gooey) paste– the work of the micro-organisms in full swing breaking down the green matter. You’ll recall in our last post the Niklaus had us spray all the green matter with IMO (a specially brewed mix of Indegenuous Micro Organisms).
Already, after only 5 days, the compost is half there! More on this Magical Micro-Organism in another post.
