Great news for the planet! Last week we launched Ecobricks throughout the Coordillera Administrative Region. Mam Ellen Donato, superintendent for almost 2000 schools and over a quarter million students made the announcement. Approxamitely 330,000 students from elementary to highschool will be mobilized to Ecobrick as our VEB is distributed far and wide.
All the district superintendents (who will be implementing) were there, and so too the congresswoman and governor. We got them all packing ecobricks! (I had been carrying around my plastics from the last week and I slipped mine in for the congresswoman to pack, heh heh). The undersecretary of education was the special guest– he had kind words for our Ecobrick team on our hard work crafting the guide. Our movie was shown and then the students and I went outside to build a bench.
Ecobricks have come a long way– from being ridiculed by the engineers and mayor where I first tried a project to now… well, with this week’s launch, a massive collaborative phenomenon that has began in the humblest villages and is now gone way up to getting the hands of the politicians dirty– with real dirt and grime that is!
A big thanks to the slow and steady hard work of the Ecobricks.org team that got us here!
