Our first bottle compost pit is complete! The whole school worked together to realize everything from the bricks to the construction to the green material. The other day, we not only added the last layer of bricks, but we also did a major weed pulling clean-up. The weeds were shredded, then sprayed with IMO (a special spray of indigenous micro-organisms that Niklaus had made from mouldy rice and molasses). After only a few hours, you could put your hand in and feel the heat from the shredded plants already starting to decompose! Unbelievably, in only a few weeks we should have usable and very rich compost/soil that we can scoop out from the Hobbit door of our bottle pit.
