We’ve been working hard to develop a pilot Ecobrick park to showcase the simplest, lowest-cost, Ecobrick construction methods.  Our park in Balili, Bontoc, Mt. Province, Philippines is now complete!  The park shows how trash (approximately 1000 large sacs of plastic) can be transformed through minimum cost for maximum utility– not only was all that trash kept out of the communities environment, it created a community green space with decades of enduring return.

The park is now being planted with fruit trees, vegetables and herbs– to serve as play, rest and food resource for the school.  The park uses approximately 900 Ecobricks.  80% of the work of packing Ecobricks and construction was done by the elementary students and teachers.  Parents, community leaders and shop owners did the rest  (no paid labour!).  Ecobrick designer, Russell Maier, led the construction and lay out. The park’s design includes a longterm development plan– this way there is a longterm plan and encouragment for plastic ecobrick packing.

The park’s 11,000peso (300$ US ) budget was made possible through community mobilization, school funds, parent contributions of 50 pesos and labour, and a donation made on behalf of David Guerrero.
